Comment requests
Read Instagram and Facebook comments, resolve Blotato post and parent-comment IDs, and verify an authorized reply.
Compact reference for agents making REST requests. All endpoint paths below are relative to https://backend.blotato.com/v2. For task instructions, read the workflow guide. For tool calls, use the MCP reference.
Manage comments
Read the intended comment before replying. Match the connected account, post, parent comment, and recipient to the user's request. A request to draft a reply does not authorize sending it. Use Reply to comments for the task flow.
Comments are public comments your audience leaves on your published posts, plus
comments you post back through Blotato.
Supported platforms: instagram, facebook
Notes:
- Blotato does not backfill comments. It captures new comments received after the account connects with the required permissions.
- For an Instagram post published outside Blotato, a new comment creates the post record shown in the Inbox.
- Test Instagram capture with a new top-level comment from another account. A reply to an older comment is not a valid test.
- Refresh the Inbox after the new comment arrives.
- Comments are retained for up to 45 days.
- Lists and posts top-level comments and one level of replies (no reply to a reply).
List comments:
GET /comments?limit=20&cursor=OPTIONAL_CURSOR&accountId=OPTIONAL_ACCOUNT_ID&postId=OPTIONAL_POST_ID&since=ISO_8601&until=ISO_8601
Response: { "items": [ <Comment>, ... ], "cursor": "..." }
Post a comment only when sending is authorized:
POST /comments
{
"postId": "id-of-post-to-leave-comment-on",
"text": "Comment text",
"parentCommentId": "optional-id-of-comment-to-reply-to"
}
Response: a <Comment> object with status "queued"
Save the returned id. A queued reply has not been posted yet.
Use Blotato IDs for postId and parentCommentId, not platformPostId or platformCommentId.
For a reply, the parent must be a posted top-level comment on the same post.
PLATFORM-SPECIFIC FIELDS:
instagram:
text limit: 2200 characters
facebook:
text limit: 8000 characters
comments post to your Facebook Page posts
Poll: GET /comments/:commentId
Status values: "queued" | "processing" | "posted" | "failed" | "deleted"
- posted: live on the platform
- failed: stop and inspect errorMessage and errorCode
- deleted: report deletion rather than successful delivery
- queued or processing: check the saved ID within a bounded wait
If the wait ends, report the saved ID and pending state. Do not send another reply.
If no ID was received, report the uncertain outcome and inspect existing comments
before repeating the write.
<Comment>:
{
"id": "cmt_abc123",

"parentCommentId": null, // set when this comment is a reply
"platformPostId": "17851234567890",
"platformCommentId": "17899876543210", // null until posted
"authorId": "1784000000", // null if unknown
"isAuthor": false, // true = you authored it, false = audience
"text": "Love this!",

"errorMessage": null,
"createdAt": "2026-07-01T12:34:56Z"
}
An Instagram post published outside Blotato still receives a Blotato post ID when
an incoming comment creates its tracked post record. Do not infer publication origin
from whether postId is populated.
Replying to a new audience member counts toward the monthly active-contacts limit.
GET /users/me/usage returns contacts and contactsLimit. Use the account's current
limit instead of assuming its plan default. Replying to your own comment does not count.Return to the agent reference index.
