Limitations

"AI Generated" label

Meta does not expose the "AI Generated" content label through their API. You cannot add this label to Facebook posts published through Blotato or any third-party tool.

Custom cover images for videos

Facebook does not support custom cover images for video posts via API. You cannot set a custom thumbnail when publishing Facebook videos through Blotato or any third-party tool.

"Published by" label

The "Published by [App Name]" label appears on Facebook posts when published via any third-party app. Facebook does not allow you to remove this label because it is part of their transparency policy.

Regular feed video posts

Facebook no longer supports regular feed video posts through the API. All Facebook videos publish as Reels -- see Facebook Reel requirements.

One Blotato account per Facebook account

For consistent management, keep Pages authorized through 1 Facebook login in the intended Blotato account. Blotato stores connections under the signed-in Blotato user. Reauthorizing the same Facebook identity updates that user's connection.

An error such as Could not upload video to Facebook: There was a problem uploading your video file does not prove another Blotato account invalidated the token. Inspect the exact response and the intended account/Page before diagnosing a token conflict. Do not revoke permissions in one workspace to test an unverified cause in another.

See Facebook connection diagnosis.

25 posts per 24h per Page

Blotato limits Facebook publishing to 25 posts per 24 hours per Page. Each Page has its own independent limit, so posts to one Page do not count against another.

Example: 3 Facebook Pages connected through the same Facebook login each publish up to 25 posts in a 24-hour window, for 75 posts total across the 3 Pages.

Facebook also recommends staying under 5 posts per day per Page for organic reach.

Direct messages and DM automations

Messaging works on your connected Facebook Pages, not on personal profiles or Groups. Facebook sets the rules below. Blotato passes them through, so a message outside an allowed window fails.

Who you reach, and when

  • You can only reply within 24 hours of the person's last message to the Page.

  • You may send one private reply per comment, within 7 days of the comment. A comment that already received a private reply, through Blotato or another tool, rejects the second reply.

  • Cold outreach is not supported. Facebook does not let a third-party tool message someone who never contacted your Page.

  • Every Facebook message and automation needs the pageId of the Page it sends from. See List Subaccounts.

Message length

Facebook messages are limited to 2000 characters. With buttons attached, the limit drops to 640 characters.

640 characters

  • Buttons and quick replies are mutually exclusive. A message carries one or the other.

  • Facebook supports web_url and postback buttons. Phone buttons are not supported.

  • Quick-reply chips disappear once the person taps one or types their own message.

  • Blotato subscribes your Page to the postback webhook when you connect it. If you connected your Page before buttons were launched, reconnect to start receiving postback events.

See Buttons and Quick Replies.

DM automations

  • A comment trigger answers with a private reply, so the 7-day and one-per-comment rules apply.

  • A message trigger answers within the 24-hour window.

  • Automation buttons are link buttons only. For postback buttons or quick replies, send the message yourself.

  • An email gate and a webhook run on Facebook Pages. An email gate asks the person for their email before your message sends, and the webhook posts the captured address to your endpoint. On automations published after September 14, 2026, a contact with an email already on file skips the gate.

  • With an email gate set, the gate message takes the one private reply. Later messages in the run arrive as standard DMs.

  • A follow gate runs on Instagram only. See Follow Gate Object.

  • Removing a Page in Settings leaves its automations marked Live, but they stop receiving comments and messages. Add the Page back to resume them. Disconnecting the whole Facebook account archives its automations.

  • Per-post targeting covers posts published through Blotato only. The post picker never lists a post published directly on your Facebook Page. For one of those, watch any post and match on the keyword the post asks people to comment. The picker also shows posts from your other Pages on the same Facebook login, so pick a post from the automation's own Page. See Targeting a Specific Post.

See DM Automations.

Not supported

  • Messaging from a personal Facebook profile or a Facebook Group.

  • Starting a run or answering a gate with a message with no text, such as a photo, sticker, voice note, or reaction.

  • Reading messages older than 45 days. Blotato retains messages for 45 days and does not backfill.
