FAQs
Facebook Page publishing, Reels, Stories, permissions, and errors.
For API and MCP fields, Page IDs, and examples, start with Facebook publishing.
How do I publish a regular Facebook post (not a Reel or Story)?
Text-only posts and image posts publish as regular Facebook feed posts by default. Videos always publish as Reels -- Facebook no longer supports regular feed videos through the API. See Facebook Reel requirements for size, duration, and aspect-ratio specs.
Using the Blotato web app: Leave the Reel/Story selector unselected for text or image posts. Videos automatically publish as Reels.
Using the Blotato API or n8n/Make.com: Omit mediaType for text or image posts. For videos, set mediaType to "reel". Set "story" for Stories.
How do I add a first comment to my Facebook post?
Blotato's First Comment field auto-posts a comment right after your Facebook post publishes.
Web app: Fill in the First Comment field in the Facebook post/schedule options.
API/MCP: Set
target.firstCommentin Publish Post, or passfirstCommentto theblotato_create_postMCP tool.
First comments work on feed posts and reels, up to 8000 characters. Stories are not supported.
Why don't older Facebook comments show up?
Blotato does not backfill comments. It starts capturing comments once your account has comments enabled and you connect or reconnect your Facebook account. Comments left before then do not appear.
Blotato also retains comments for up to 45 days. Comments older than 45 days may no longer appear.
To grant the comment permission, reconnect your Facebook account in Accounts. See Connect Facebook.
Can I read or reply to Facebook comments in Blotato?
Yes. Blotato reads and posts comments on your published Facebook Page posts through the Comments API and the MCP tools.
You can list comments, post a top-level comment, and reply to a top-level comment. Comments work on your Facebook Pages, not personal profiles, up to 8000 characters.
Blotato does not support:
Replies to replies. You can reply to a top-level comment, but not to a reply.
Commenting on other people's posts.
If you connected your account before comments launched, reconnect it to grant the permission. See Connect Facebook.
Can I read or send Facebook messages in Blotato?
Yes. Blotato reads and sends direct messages on your Facebook Page through the Messages API and the MCP tools.
You may reply to people who already have a conversation with your Page, or send a private reply to a comment on your posts. Facebook limits who you can message and when:
If they sent a direct message to you, you have 24 hours to respond to them.
If they posted a comment to one of your posts, you have up to 7 days to send a single private reply/direct message to them. You may not message them again after your private reply until they re-open your 24-hour messaging window.
Blotato does not support cold outreach or messaging people who have not contacted your Page.
Sending a message to a new person counts toward your plan's monthly active-contacts limit. See Active Contacts.
If you connected your account before messaging launched, reconnect it to grant the permission. See Connect Facebook.
To reply automatically when someone comments on your Page post or sends your Page a message, set up a DM automation.
Can Blotato auto-reply to Facebook comments and DMs?
Yes, on your connected Facebook Pages. Set up a DM automation. When someone comments a keyword on your Page post, or sends your Page a keyword message, Blotato answers with a direct message.
Automations run on Pages only, never on a personal profile or a Group.
An email gate and a webhook run on Facebook Pages. The gate asks the person for their email before your message sends, and the webhook posts the captured address to your own endpoint. On automations published after September 14, 2026, a contact with an email already on file skips the gate. A follow gate runs on Instagram only, and a Facebook automation rejects it. See DM Automations.
Can Blotato post to Facebook Groups?
No. Blotato publishes to Facebook Pages only. Facebook's API does not let third-party tools post to Facebook Groups or personal profiles, so connect and publish to a Facebook Page instead.
To post to a Page, connect it in Accounts and make sure your Facebook login has an Admin role on the Page.
See: Facebook Limitations
Can I disconnect my personal Facebook profile and keep my Facebook Page connected?
No. You must keep the personal Facebook login connected because Meta uses it to authorize Blotato's access to your Pages.
Keep the personal Facebook login connected in Blotato.
Select the Facebook Pages you want Blotato to access.
Publish to those Pages. Blotato does not publish to your personal profile.
The personal Facebook login does not count toward your plan's connected-account limit. Each connected Facebook Page counts as one account. Disconnecting the Facebook login removes every Page connected through it.
See: Facebook Connection Guide
What is the Facebook posting limit?
Blotato limits Facebook publishing to 25 posts per 24 hours per Page. Each Page has its own independent limit, so posts to one Page do not count against another.
If you connect 3 Pages from the same Facebook login, each Page publishes up to 25 posts in a 24-hour window. Facebook also recommends staying under 5 posts per day per Page for organic reach.

Why does my Facebook post show the blog's image instead of the image I attached?
When your Facebook post contains a link, Facebook generates a link preview card and uses the link page's own preview image (its featured image). Facebook shows that image instead of the image you attached. This is Facebook's behavior, not Blotato's, and it applies whether you schedule from the web app or through Claude, n8n, or Make.com.
To keep your own image, remove the link from the post:
Open the post in the AI Agent: https://my.blotato.com/agent
Delete the link from the post text.
If you still want to share the URL, paste it as plain text in the caption instead of as a preview link.
Confirm your attached image is the one you want.
Schedule or publish the post.
With no link in the post, Facebook keeps the image you attached.

My Facebook Pages won't connect or don't appear after selecting them
Confirm the Facebook identity has publishing access to the intended Page.
Confirm you are signed in to the intended Blotato account.
Check the Pages listed under the Facebook connection in Accounts.
If the intended Page or its permissions were omitted, reconnect the same identity and select the Page during authorization.
If it remains absent, send support the Page ID, error, and timestamp.
Missing Pages or simultaneous failures do not prove an outage. Do not revoke the Meta integration as a routine fix. Follow Facebook connection diagnosis.
Blotato connected the wrong Facebook Page, or only shows a Page I don't want
First confirm the Facebook identity, selected Pages, and signed-in Blotato account. A wrong Page does not prove the Page picker was skipped.
Go to Accounts and click Reconnect on Facebook.
Open Meta's permission-editing or Page-selection step when offered. Some versions label it Edit Settings or Edit Previous Settings.
In the Page picker, check off the Page you want and uncheck the Pages you don't.
Finish connecting.
If the expected selector does not appear, retain the screen and error details for support. Do not remove Blotato from Meta as a routine workaround. Removal revokes permissions rather than clearing a cache.
Open the reconnect flow in an incognito browser window while logged into only the Facebook account you want.
See: Facebook Connection Guide
Facebook shows Blotato as connected, but Blotato shows no Facebook account
Meta listing an integration does not prove Blotato saved the connection for the account you are viewing. It also does not identify the failure cause.
Confirm you are signed in to the intended Blotato account.
Open Accounts and refresh Connected accounts.
If the Facebook identity is absent, start Connect account > Facebook.
Select the intended Facebook identity and Pages during authorization.
Return to Blotato and verify the connected identity and Pages.
If authorization fails, retain its error, timestamp, hostname, and path for support. Exclude callback codes and state values.
Do not remove the Meta integration, reset all settings, or diagnose an outage from the missing-account symptom alone.
